Perception Point researchers discover #phishing campaign targeting Meta users on Instagram with spoofed copyright infringement allegations. This attack leverages legitimate two-factor authentication (2FA) codes to steal user credentials. Here’s how it works: 1️⃣ The attacker sends an email impersonating Meta, accusing the target of copyright infringement on Instagram. 2️⃣ In order to prevent account deletion, the target must submit an appeal form. 3️⃣ Like in most phishing scams, the user is prompted to enter their Instagram credentials. What is different in this attack is that the user is also asked for a backup code and directed to a legitimate Instagram page. With the backup code, the attack can effectively bypass 2FA measures.
